I am looking at a 1992 New Holland L785 skid steer with about 3000 hrs. on it.It seems to be in pretty good shape. One thing that bothers me is that when I turn left or right it makes a very loud groaning noise. This would be my first skid steer so I'm not that familiar with them.Does anyone have an idea what may be causing this noise and is it something to worry about?

I have a 1991 L785 and it too makes a loud noise sometimes when turning. The unit has 1500 hours and the prev owner says it always made that noise. It is really loud sometimes enough to wear ear protection.

15 years old and 3k hrs, I would look for something else. Just curious, whats he asking?
Like NCSU said it could be a pump on its way out.

i cant hear the noise but i know that new CAT machines moan a little when you turn because of the pressure being applied to the drive motors and the load being put on the engine

All skid steer will make some groaning noise when turning especially under load but it shouldn't be that loud. It sounds like a bad drive motor.
