Bobcat 630 Shutting off.

Quick question. Someone I know has a Bobcat 630 with a hole in the muffler. When the engine warms up, it shuts down. He thinks its because the hole in the muffler blows down on the distributor and trips the overtemp sensor. Could this be the case or is it more likely that the engine is losing compression and shutting down. I am thinking of purchasing this machine and don't want to replace more than the muffler. Thoughts?

try wrapping the hole with heat tape and see if that cures the problem, if it doesnt id say its something else, maybe a bad overheat sensor?
