Hi
I have been looking to buy a compact tractor for landscaping. I have been searching online and on here for what is best - and i came across a JD on ebay:

and i was wondering if this would be a good purchase or not?
Also if it would be able to handel moving materials as well as grading and tilling?

Nathan, I have the newer verzion 2305 and while it is a pwerful little machine, I would step up to the 2520 if I had to do it over again. the hydraulics are much faster on the 2520 and it doesn't have a fan underneath for hydro cooling like the 2210/2305.
with that said, I just finished a job of scraping out about 5 ton of gravel, grading 9 yards of fill and finishing with 9 yards of topsoil, the tractor had no problem.

I would get a mini skid, like that toro dingo phis recommended. Theyre much more maneuverable, and i assume power to weight ratio is much better.

every thing has it's place. the Dingo is a very useful piece of equipment, but I wouldn't be without the tractor either...I also have a 50" tiller for the tractor that makes life real easy doing soil prep.

Nathan,
If you're any good with your hands and tools you might want to look at gray market tractors. They're a lot cheaper than Deere and Kubota tractors but built to the same specs for the foreign market like Japan, Korea and the like. It's a long story but for parts and PM you're pretty much on your own. The money saved is considerable if you can justify the time you would spend PM'ing your own equipment. I figure I saved 20K when I bought mine for my farm but every person and job you might have for your machine is different.
If you're looking to use this tractor for commercial use then I suggest you buy one with a warranty attached to a dealer. Down time for warranty work can get expensive if you have contracts and deadlines. Deere, Kubota, Massey are all fine equipment but you'll pay for the network of dealers, parts and all their salaries. The choice is yours.
