I thinking about dropping AOL. I'm looking at Walmart connect and this Juno package...Juno (http://http://www.juno.com/compare/)

Anyone have any experiences with them, or can reccommend any other ISPs?

Best advice I can give you...most offer a free trial. Try each of them to see if you even like them and how good their connections are, then go from there. I've heard good and bad things about Juno, but it's been awhile and I'm sure there have been many improvements.

What's the reason for the switch? If I may ask? Sounds like you have dial up? Try net-zero for dial up, heard the speed was much faster than standard dial up.

I like my earthlink.THey have made it faster.

Thanks everyone.
I feel like I can do better than AOL, and get a cheaper rate. A buddy of mine has been using Walmart connect for about a year, and never has gotten kicked off!
He pays $10.00 per month!
And yes I'm stuck with dial up....using long distance no less!

I got rid of it years ago. Lots of spyware and bots all over your system. Even the new 9.0 version has a spyware detector, but isn't that like the fox watching the henhouse. Try anything instead of AOHell and good luck.

remember juno is so cheep due to the popups and all theadds that they put out. Real pain. I have highspeed cable. yes it's expensive but a tax right off if you email customers. there is Sat internet which is high speed. to me i'd look around for a local ISP in the area and go with it. NOT juno. Cheap is not the best.

Ps. I'm a Network Eng for Fed-Ex if that makes any differance.

Alta do you live in an area where high speed is not available?

Does your phone company offer any kind of internet connection? If they do, you can usually get a deal with your phone service. We did this with SBC dsl because we could not stay connected with Aol for more than a few minutes. We still have Aol, and even using it with the dsl we still get kicked off very often. Don't ask me how...

Most of my family live in the country in Southern Missouri, most do not have access to high speed, but they use local companies and their phone company offers some options. Some of their dial ups are really fast and dependable.

My stepmother had been trying to find a free or real chaep internet service provider.
She had decided to go with Juno ... well she had nothing but problems, and then when she got the bill, she almost fainted ... they had charged her something like $200 for technical support. That is why they are so cheap/free, if you have a problem that you can't figure out, even if it is because the installation info is not the best or complete, they charge you somehting in the area of $3 per minute for technical support ... STAY AWAY from Juno/NetZero !!!

Thanks everyone.
And yes I'm stuck with dial up....using long distance no less! Ouch!
I've got the same question as Goddess, are there no other alternatives for your area? Considering the number of posts you made, getting satellite service would be cheaper than all the future LD bills.

I believe Juno has cut way down on pop ups and banner ads, but still slow compared to HS cable. Guess it's alright if you're just e-mailing and not surfing and/or downloading a lot.
Do the trial thing.

Unfortunately, I don't have any cable options. I'll check with the local phone company..I do think they have something like a line within the phoneline , not cable. I've heard horror stories about Directway too.
Thanks for the heads up on Juno. And idea about the local phone provider. :)

I spent most of Tuesday and today on the phone with my local phone company. I was able to drop one line, unfortunately it will be a week before I can change my package on the main line.
They offer a package now with more features than the one I'm on for $6.00 less per month!
Although they told me differently before, I do have "extended local calling" so ISP dial up is not long distance. I specifically asked before and the woman said "it doesn't apply to modems"!!
I have Sprint, famous for noise in lines, no customer service, and phone bills Einstein couldn't figure out.

Hey, Glan, good to see you back.
Unfortunately, I live out in the middle of nowhere, and cable is one of 'em new fangled thangs' we'll probably never get.
Actually my AOL is pretty fast. Nothing lik ecable. Maybe Directway will improve over time.
I'm usually only on for a few minutes, I check email, browse this site, sometimes TractorByNet, and DieselRam, then get off.
I got in the habit of typing long responses in MS word, then copy paste here. :)

The DSL that Glan refers to is not cable or sattelite, it is a high speed connection thru the phone line. DSL in this area is just as fast as cable and also just as reliable. I do believe Sprint offers DSL service. It will however cost you about as much as cable.
