I want to get a high speed internet service, but am not sure which way to go. Verizon offers DSL service here, and I know several guys who are happy with that service. Charter Cable also offers high speed internet service here, but I have not talked at anyone who uses it. Price is about the same now. Anyone here using the Charter high speed cable service? How do you like it?
Does cable service offer any advantages, (or have any disadvantages), over DSL service from the phone company? Thanks.
I got a picture of myself next to the car in Talladega! :)

We've had experience with both DSL and cable, thru our older son's consulting business. First had cable, then went to DSL after issues with access outages and lackadaisical cable staff's lack of customer service. DSL was OK, but wasn't broadband enough and went out every time it rained. Phone company claimed they weren't at fault, however, every other tech that came out to trace the line laid the blame squarely on them. So back to cable, and 3 years later, no problems. We understand that Charter had a change of management while we were using DSL, so that may have had something to do with things.

I had to switch from comcast to charter when I moved, same speed, less money, and so far just as reliable.

Charter sux ass. At least around here it does. 3 meg down, 256 up, S L O W most times. If you want to look at pretty pages, shop, chat, check email, sure it's fine. If you want to game online, CHARTER SUX ASS.

One of the stores I support at my day job has Charter. What a PITA!! If it goes down and we call their support they don't have clue. Modem has to be reboot every couple of days.
I use DSL, not as fast a cable, but I have dedicated real IP address which makes things easier for home networking, and other more technical things which will bore most. I also get 768k up and down and it is cheaper than the cable in my area.
It really depends on what you want. Some people experience phone problems with DSL because it typically uses the same phone line already coming to your home. I had an issue with losing connection. Turned out I needed to put an in line filter on the jack where the phone plugs in.
Some people have issues with cable because you don't always have a dedicated IP and you share the bandwith with everybody else in the neighborhood. Which means when the kids down the road come home and get online to download their music they eat your bandwith up.
I would check both and figure what the best deal for your needs are.

You can dedicate an IP address with Chater also. You just have to tell them that is what you want.
