Somehow an adware got through my firewall. Almost everytime I open a site, I get a pop up. McAfee wont let me delete it. I need to get this program deleted, its slowing my system down and crashing my internet at times. Thanks for the help. DRogers where are you??:l)

There is 2 different free downloads that may help you out. the first one: adaware is from lavasoft and the second one is spybot, search and destroy.

So far, there is not one program that can take care of all your needs but this will help

Also, have you upgraded to service pack 2? A pop-up killer is one of the security features that was part of the download.

A firewall won't block what you are requesting to come into your computer. Most adware comes in with cookies.

The Ad-Aware software from www.lavasoft.de works very well. The free version must be run manually, the pay version works automatically. The first time I ran it the software found over 600 data miners in my computer.

Hopefully you've also got Norton Anti-Virus as well.

No I dont use Norton,I've had nothing but trouble with Norton in the past. I have McAfee (firewall and anti-virus) as well as Armor2Net(firewall, spyware, and anti virus). So I have 2 firewalls. So in other words, I have a spyware program installed but it still got through, unless I had it turned off at that time.

i run spywareblaster, spybot search and destroy and also adaware. some of these popups you have to delete from your registry also. so try the registry mechanic.

Mcaffe SUCKS. Deal with it at work all the time. Half the time it won't do its job until you start running other programs to find problems.

Todd, boot the PC into safe mode. You do this by holding F8 when the machine starts. Safe mode will start your computer with minimal programs running. So with any luck whatever is causing your problem will not start and you can delete it. Then run Adaware and spybot both.

Make sure you have the updated definitions for both before running them. Also if you are on broadband, remove your connection or disable it. A lot of these programs will reinstall if you don't get it all.

There is another great program called Hijack this but you have to be careful and really know what you are looking for. Even an IT guy like me can delete the wrong things sometimes.

Your spyware blocker may need to be updated. As soon as something is blocked somebody else is working on a way to get around the blocker.

Do you have a name of this program or what it is doing? If so some research may help you find a cure if my suggestions don't work.
