I want a Dump Truck for pulling a MTL on a trailer.....

Looking at Ford F-450, 550, 650 and dreaming of a 750.

What do you use? I need something that will hold at LEAST 4 yards of dirt/rock and still tow the loaded trailer home.........

I need the dump for sure. Have to have a cover for the load.

Thinking I'd better get a 4X4.

Help.....

MTL on a trailer......

http://cmms.cat.com/cmms/servlet/cat.dcs.cmms.servlet.ImageServlet?imageid=C053771&imageType=2

The MTL (Multi Terrain Loader) alone is about 9K lbs another 2500 for the trailer.

I need a dump truck the will hold at least 4 maximum of 6 yards of dirt/rock and still be legal to haul the MTL home.

NO CDL!

4 x 4, Crew Cab

Under 26,000 GVW, no CDL needed here

Most ¾ ton pickups can haul the skid loader, but not the extra materials.

I can put skid loader and 2 pallets of wall builders on and be just shy of 26,000

I have 14,000 capacity/room with this truck

You are going to be over CDL anyways regardless of truck size. 9,000 + 2,500 = 11,500 > 10,000

Ford 450 or 550 will be fine. With the lanscape body. No CDL and will get material and machine home. 12FT body is perfect with the tarp roller.

I guess I need to look into what the CDL limits are here in Virginia. I'm sure it's different in other states. Probably heavier here than in N.Y.

Anybody know what the CDL requirements are here in Virginia? Link to find out?

Nevermind.......

When do I need a Virginia CDL instead of my regular Virginia Drivers License?
A Virginia CDL is required if you operate any of the following CMV's . . .
1. A vehicle with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of more than 26,000 lbs.
2. A vehicle towing a unit with a manufacturer's GVWR of more than 10,000 lbs. when the GCWR exceeds 26,000 lbs.
3. A vehicle used to . . .(a.) carry 15 or more passengers (excluding the driver), or (b.) carry (15) or less people (including the driver) when carrying children to or from school and home regularly for compensation.
4. A vehicle carrying hazardous materials in amounts requiring placarding.

Your (owner) license is fine, if someone else was pulling it, they would need a chauffers' license. Under 26,000 gvw, but commercial drivers license.

Yours is the same requirements as here.

All 50 states require a chauffers' license (all drivers) when you put signs on the side of a vehicle when they are used for advertising. IE: LCO name or even realistate.

I love seeing the realitors pulled over by DOT on the side of the road with a blank look on their faces cause they have a sign on the side of the car.

I have never seen anyone or heard of anyone here in VA getting pulled over for that. Might have to research that.

VA does not have a chauffers license. They have regular license, commercial drivers license, motorcycle license and international drivers license. http://www.dmv.state.va.us/webdoc/citizen/drivers/index.asp

Why not an F550 or a GM 4500-5500

F750 is a big truck weight mucho poundos

Because the F550 does not tow or carry half as much as the F750 and it only costs about $5000 less.

The F750 weighs about 12K and can gross 45K that's a 33K payload, I don't see how an F550 can compete with that.

Correct me if I'm mistaken.

I think the chassis weight can go from 24k to 42k

Hey no prob, buying the right truck for the job is a good idea, just trying to keep you under CDL

I think the CDL rates vary from state to state because I told my salesman I want to be under CDL rates but as little under as possible.

He assures me the F-750 I'm looking at is non-CDL.

I have not bought yet, still checking everything out.

I would check the CDL limts my self .I tend not to believe most people espescialy salesmen .I have a C 450 she can hold about 5 yards and not drag her but . I don't have a skid steer but iv'e had 15 yrds of wet chips and towed a 5,500 pound chipper around . even though I don't need a CDL i'm always overloading the truck beacause it weighs 11,000 and my GVW is 16,500 go figure . If you're moving dirt every day get the F 750 .bye the way the CDL limit in NY is 18'000

Well considering the salesman will be the one licensing, registering and tagging the truck, I'm pretty confident that he'll not lie to me about it's limits.

I'll be making sure regardless.
