View Full Version : moving dozer ?
My buddy said I could borrow his dozer if I ever needed / wanted to use it. Well, I asked him a couple days ago if I could use it, and there was no problem with using it, the only thing is it costs $3,000 to move the sucker. So I am just curious, what is involved with moving a D8 that it costs $3,000?
Somebody else I know, it used to cost him $1,000 to move a 60,000 lb excavator before he bought a semi / lowboy combo.

Sounds like some price gouging to me. My brother in law has his skidder, Timberjack 340, moved every couple of months and the guy only charges him $60/hr to move it. The same guy moves another loggers Timberjack 640 and his D8 also for $75/hr.

Moving a D8 here would cost you $200.....we have moved our dozers and dragline several times and the guy with the lowboy use to do it for $100 because we were all good friends. Now its $200 because of the increased costs to run a tractor trailer and lowboy.

you did not say how far you was moving but the width of the blade is about 16 ft wide and the operating weight is about 85,000 lbs plus it is about 11 ft tall so in order to cover you butt you would need all the right permits and then the right number of axles on the truck and trailer in order not to be over axle weight I would say that is probably the reason that it would cost so much

Well, first off, you are in the state of NY, that explains a lot about the cost. Really though, you need a 50 ton lowboy, and then permits for over width, and overheight, and you did not say how far you are moving it. If it is a short move, then the price sounds pretty high though. I would expect it could run at least $1000.00 though for a reasonably short haul.
